Frequently asked questions

Understand your credits.

All examples below exclude GST and use Individual / Starter rates unless stated otherwise. Checkout shows the applicable price, dates and credit allocation before you pay.

Credits, plans and your account

What is a credit? Is one credit the same as one rupee?

A credit is a service-usage unit, not cash. Monthly plans currently include one credit per rupee of the pre-tax plan price, and a ₹100 top-up adds 100 credits. Annual plans give more: Starter Annual costs ₹10,000 and grants 12,000 credits upfront. GST does not add credits.

Usage deducts credits at your active plan's rates. For example, 1,000 characters of TTS cost 0.95 credits on Individual or Starter, but 0.75 on Professional. Balances support fractions; credits are not rounded to whole numbers per request.

Are there separate allowances for speech, translation, OCR and dubbing?

No. They share one prepaid balance. Spend it on any mix of supported services. A 250-credit plan could cover 250 OCR pages if used only for OCR, but using speech or translation reduces the same balance. The plan is not an unlimited subscription or a separate allowance for every service.

How do Individual and Starter differ?

Individual is for personal, non-commercial use through our mobile and web apps and does not permit API keys. Starter and higher plans support commercial use and API-key access for your applications. Individual and Starter currently have identical usage rates; Starter includes a larger allocation. An API key does not bypass credit or plan requirements.

How do I activate the free trial?

Sign in with Google and choose Activate Free Trial if your account is eligible. You receive 250 credits for 30 days at Individual rates, without a card. The same account cannot claim another trial by changing devices or switching between apps. The trial does not include API-key access, renew automatically or convert into a paid subscription.

If you purchase a plan before trial expiry, remaining trial credits keep their original expiry; buying a plan does not restart the trial's 30 days.

Where can I see my balance and invoices?

Open your profile menu and choose Balance Credits, or sign in to pay.bhashini.ai with the same Google account. Review your subscription, balance and purchases there. Eligible invoice downloads are available for your own purchases. Mobile, web and API usage for the same billing account share the balance.

Do Annual credits arrive monthly?

No. The complete Annual allocation is granted upfront when the Annual term starts. For example, Starter Annual costs ₹10,000 + GST and provides 12,000 credits for the term, rather than 1,000 new credits each month. A prepaid renewal scheduled for later grants its credits when that next term begins.

How usage is measured

How are TTS, translation and transliteration charged?

Text is measured in Unicode code points, not bytes or words. A visible Indian-script character can contain multiple code points. The per-1,000 rate is proportional, not a charge for each started block of 1,000.

At Individual / Starter rates, 500 TTS characters cost 500 / 1,000 × 0.95 = 0.475 credits. Translating 1,200 source characters costs 1,200 / 1,000 × 0.55 = 0.66 credits. Transliteration has the same current rate as translation. Document translation counts translatable source text rather than the file's byte size. Standalone workflows that request both translation and speech consume credits for both services.

How are speech recognition and OCR charged?

Speech recognition is billed by audio duration in whole seconds, rounded up, even though the comparison table displays a per-minute rate. A 90-second ASR request costs 90 / 60 × 0.55 = 0.825 credits. For a batch, audio durations are added before rounding to seconds.

Cloud OCR costs 1 credit per processed page or image on every listed plan. A three-page OCR request costs 3 credits. On-device processing does not call the metered cloud OCR service.

How is self-service video dubbing charged?

Dubbing is bundled by source-video duration for each target language, rounded up to whole minutes. It is not calculated from the combined speaking time of dialogs.

A 5-minute 30-second video counts as 6 minutes: 6 × 33.33 = 199.98 credits for one target language. A 10-minute video dubbed into five languages counts as 50 billable language-minutes: 1,666.50 credits at Starter rates. These amounts come from the shared credit balance.

When is dubbing charged? Are retries charged again?

The first target language is charged during source preparation, once dialog detection and the initial transcription pass have saved usable transcripts. This can happen before translation finishes, including when some transcripts still need retrying.

An additional target language is charged when you initiate translation or synthesis and useful output is saved. Merely selecting a language does not charge it. Within the same billed session and target language, translation, synthesis and retries of failed portions are included rather than billed again as separate stages. Importing the video into a new session is not a guarantee of reusing the old charge.

Who pays when collaborators work on a dubbing project?

The project owner pays the bundled video charge, not the collaborator initiating the action. Included VelvetDub editing tools, such as authorized microphone input and translation/transliteration assistance, do not require a collaborator to buy a separate subscription. This does not make the collaborator's unrelated usage in the standalone speech or translation apps free.

Why can my available balance change while a job is running?

Before paid work starts, credits may be reserved so simultaneous requests cannot spend the same balance. Reserved credits are temporarily unavailable; the operation then settles its charge or releases unused reservations. A failed operation is not automatically a zero-charge operation if billable work was already saved, such as the initial dubbing transcripts.

New work can be rejected if the available balance cannot cover its reservation. Wait for running jobs to complete or top up an active paid plan. The displayed balance may be rounded, while billing retains finer precision.

Expiry, carry-over and top-ups

Do credits expire?

Yes. Plan credits belong to the purchased term. Eligible unused credits can carry into a same-plan renewal or upgrade; they do not carry into a downgrade or survive indefinitely without renewal. Trial credits expire after 30 days, new carry-over credits after 60 days from the next term's start, and top-up credits after 365 days from fulfillment.

These are separate expiry dates: renewing your plan does not reset an existing trial, carry-over or top-up expiry.

How much can I carry forward?

The cap is two monthly allocations of the destination plan, counting any existing unexpired carry-over. Starter therefore has a 2,000-credit carry cap whether you choose Monthly or Annual. Its 12,000-credit Annual allocation does not mean that all 12,000 can carry forward.

For example, if 300 credits remain at Starter renewal and you have no existing carry, the new Monthly term starts with 1,000 new credits plus 300 carried credits. The 300 expire 60 days after the new term begins. If 1,800 carried credits still exist at the next renewal, only another 200 fit under the 2,000 cap. Existing carry keeps its earlier expiry. Only unused credits not reserved for running operations can move.

Which credits are used first?

Credits with the earliest expiry are used first, helping you use expiring balances. This normally uses plan or carry-over credits before longer-lived top-ups, but an earlier-expiring top-up is used first. Where expiry dates tie, carry-over precedes plan credits, which precede top-ups.

After an upgrade, eligible retained credits buy services at the newly active plan's rates. A job already reserved keeps its quoted rate.

Can I top up without changing my plan?

Yes, with an active paid subscription. Buy ₹100 increments, each adding 100 credits before GST. For example, ₹500 + GST adds 500 credits. A plan that has used all its credits but is still within its term can be topped up.

Top-ups retain their own 365-day expiry through upgrades and downgrades, but do not extend or replace your subscription. An active plan is still required to use metered services. Trial-only accounts need a paid plan before purchasing a top-up.

Renewals, upgrades and downgrades

What happens when I renew the same plan?

A same-plan renewal starts at the end of your current term, not on top of it. You pay the full next-term price and receive its allocation when that term begins. Eligible unused credits carry subject to the cap and expiry rules. Complete renewal before your current term expires if you want continuous service and eligible carry-over.

What are the two Upgrade now options?

For a higher plan in the same billing cycle, Upgrade remaining term charges the prorated positive price difference and grants the prorated credit difference, retaining your renewal date. Start a new full term charges the entire destination price, grants its full allocation and starts a new term immediately. Both preserve eligible unused credits within the destination carry cap.

Example: Starter Monthly to Creator Monthly with 24 of 30 inclusive days remaining. Upgrade remaining term costs 24 / 30 × (₹2,500 − ₹1,000) = ₹1,200 + GST and adds 1,200 credits. A new full Creator term instead costs ₹2,500 + GST and adds 2,500 credits, resetting the term dates. The checkout preview shows eligible carry separately. New rates apply only after payment succeeds.

Can I upgrade at renewal instead?

Yes. Choose Upgrade at renewal to keep your current plan until its term ends. The destination plan then starts with its full allocation and rates, with eligible carry-over. This differs from Upgrade now, which replaces the current term immediately after successful payment.

How does Monthly-to-Annual work?

For the same plan, you can upgrade at renewal, start a new full Annual term now, or apply your Monthly purchase toward the Annual term now. The last option charges Annual price minus purchased Monthly price and grants Annual credits minus purchased Monthly credits; it is not a refund of unused days.

Example: Starter Monthly begins 12 September 2026; you convert on 27 September 2026. The balance option costs ₹9,000 + GST, grants 11,000 new credits plus eligible unused Monthly credits, and ends 11 September 2027, anchored to the original start date. A full new Annual term instead costs ₹10,000 + GST, grants 12,000 credits plus eligible carry and ends 26 September 2027.

Can I downgrade or switch Annual to Monthly immediately?

A downgrade is scheduled for the current period's end, not applied immediately. A same-plan Annual-to-Monthly switch is treated as a downgrade and starts only after the Annual term finishes. There is no prorated refund or immediate Annual-to-Monthly conversion.

At a downgrade, unused plan credits and existing carry-over expire. Top-up and promotional credits keep their own expiry dates. If you change both plan level and billing cycle, the plan level determines whether it is an upgrade or downgrade; checkout presents the supported options and dates.

Is the carry-over amount in checkout guaranteed?

It is an estimate based on your balance when you preview the change. You may spend credits or have running jobs while completing payment. The actual eligible balance is calculated when the new period starts, applying the displayed cap and expiry policy. Review the net price, GST, new credits and effective dates before paying.

Payments and help

Are refunds available for unused credits or subscriptions?

Credits and subscription fees are non-refundable and non-transferable, except as required by applicable law. Subscription fees are billed in advance and are not refundable for partial use, mid-cycle cancellation or unused billing periods.

Is GST applicable?

All prices are exclusive of GST. GST at 18% will be applied as per Indian tax regulations.

Payment succeeded but my credits have not appeared. What should I do?

Check your purchase status in the billing app before paying again. Payment verification and fulfillment may take time. If it remains unresolved, contact bhashini.ai@gmail.com with your account email, transaction reference and invoice number if available. Never share your Google token, API key, card details or OTP.

Do these prices include managed dubbing or an on-premises deployment?

No. These prepaid rates cover self-service cloud usage. Human-reviewed VelvetDub productions and private/on-premises deployments have separately agreed scopes and pricing. Contact our team with your languages, runtime, infrastructure and delivery requirements.
